The challenge of the present generations is only one: to guarantee freedom and democracy.
With a press that is increasingly less free and financially weak, the world converted to the digital process, the future of new generations is to ensure clear and objective information about the basis of our civilisation and the development model.
We are working on the creation of an aggregate index, composed of three major areas: freedom, democracy and human and environmental progress.
The model is an aggregator that will use the main rankings and indices of freedom (economic, press, social) and democracy (political rights, freedom to vote and electoral system), along with the ranking of social development (such as the happiness index, human development, poverty and environmental indices).
The methodology followed is to create a weighting of the three major areas mentioned above.
Some initiatives propose a single index to replace GDP. The idea is to capture, in a single number, all dimensions related to human wellbeing and sustainability. From a communication point of view, it is a clear benefit to have a single index. However, the indicators underline that wellbeing and sustainability are multidimensional phenomena that encompass health, education, social relations, the economy, climate change and biodiversity, all phenomena that cannot be captured in a common unit.
We are, together with the Economics department of Nova SBE University, building an aggregator index that will use the main rankings and indexes of freedom, democracy and social development.
